Based on the same design as the Euro (33.5″ / 85cm diameter), the new Mola Beamm’s mirrored interior surface produces a highly concentrated, directional light which is unlike the white interior finish. The mirrored surface increases output, but more importantly defines the directional quality for which Mola is famous. The interior diffusion is Opal glass.
Kingsize will receive a Mola Beamm by the end of June. We are very excited to test this dish against the Bron P-Soft (pebbled silver interior), the other Mola (white interior) dishes, the Bron Satelite, and various other hard Bron reflectors such as the PAR and our optical systems.
above: Bron PAR reflector has a mirror finish interior, is the size of a regular standard reflector, but must be used with an opal protective glass cover over the flash tube. This must be fitted at the studio prior to use.The effect is long throw, concentrated, hard light.
Above: Bacht 3k Fresnel, a great hard light solution which gives alot of control. The beam can be spotted or flooded with a dial on the back.
Because the Mola Beamm retains the unique undulated design of it’s cousins the Demi, Setti, Euro and Manti we expect to see defined shadows, and for those shadows to mirror the subjects shape.
above: Chimera 5ft diagonal octa softbox. Famous for it’s wonderful softness, and efficient wrap around.
However, instead of the “octa softbox” like diffusion that you get with the white interior dishes, we are assuming a sun-like, hard-light effect from the Mola Beamm.
Also, starting out as a hard source makes the Beamm more versatile in that it can also be diffused with a sock, or diff screen. We will post tests here as soon as we receive our rental / demo unit.
Remember that our standard Mola dishes can be used with almost any brand Flash with a quick speedring change-out, or Tungsten using our Chimera Triolet Lamp System and in some cases HMI: we can put a Joker Bug into most of the dishes, while we have a custom Euro fitted for our 1200w Kobold HMI.
