HD-DSLR: Arri Follow Focus for the Vocas Rig

Vocas Rig Update: by the end of next week, we will have rounded out our Vocas rig with the Arri MFF-1 Follow Focus unit. This is recognised as the current king of the pack mainly because it features programable end stops which are pretty vital for use with Canon EOS lenses.

EOS lenses lack a hard stop when you focus past infinity or minimum, so calibrated focus marks are useless if you accidentally go past these end stops. The MFF-1 offers a lock for both ends of the scale, which can be set up for any lens, with any focus range.

To engage the end stops there is a pull-push button on the inner of the focus ring. DIsengaging offers full rotation.

Another great feature is the rail attachment system: you don’t need to remove the front components of your rig to take it on and off (good for swapping between manual or motorised FF, or for when you need to swap from left to right side focus. The gear wheel can also be swapped for use with Nikon-esque focus direction.
