IBC 2010: LED Round Up (HD Warrior)
Here’s a great round up of the lighting releases at this year’s IBC in Amasterdam.
It’s clear that LED technology has the potential to change the way we light forever. Some of the features of LED lighting that are quite compelling include:
-long lamp life: 100 years vs tungsten/hmi: 1-5yrs depending on usage.
-very small size lamp = radically space saviing designs
-solid state, ie: no moving parts
-very durable / shock proof when well engineered
-variable color temperature with wide spectrum
-wireless linking, ie: bluetooth
-DMX capable if purchased with this option
-new modular design is possible due to new designs, only made possible because of the small lamp size.
-range of soft sources, and hard sources.
-radically lower power usage = house power can support high wattage outputs / and studio electricity and generator power use much lower by as much as 70%+
-cool running = cool to the touch
-due to size, its possible to take a whole lighting kit on location
-new lamp designs are producing higher wattage units, eg: litepanels sola unit = 2.5k
